One of the biggest misconceptions about the Just Quit and Live blog is that it encourages people to quit, but it doesn't.
The original idea behind Just Quit was never about walking away from responsibility or giving up when life became difficult. It was about recognizing when something was no longer working and having the courage to move toward something that better aligned with your purpose.
Sometimes that means changing careers. Sometimes it means letting go of fear. Sometimes it simply means taking the first step toward something you've been thinking about for years.
The Hardest Part Isn't Moving
I've learned that the hardest part isn't usually making the change.
The hardest part is believing you can ask for what you really want.
Most of us spend more time talking ourselves out of opportunities than actually pursuing them. We assume someone will say no. We assume we aren't qualified. We assume we're asking too much, so we never ask.
Recently, my granddaughter celebrated her 16th birthday. She saw that Andrew Yang was following me on the X platform and was star struck someone who ran from president followed her grandmother. She wanted him to wish her a happy birthday. I decided to send Andrew Yang a message asking if he would send her a birthday greeting.
I had no expectations. I didn't know if he would ever read it. I simply asked. To my surprise, he responded with a thoughtful birthday message that made her day. She will never forget it! It reminded me of something I've learned over and over again throughout my life: You cannot receive the opportunities you never ask for.
Every New Beginning Starts Somewhere
When I look back over my own life, nearly every major change started with a simple decision to move forward.
- Leaving a purchasing career to pursue training and education.
- Starting my own businesses.
- Creating Art Pieces that make others Joyful
- Continuing to explore ideas that I'm passionate about today.
None of those things happened because I waited for someone to discover me. They happened because I took a step, asked a question, submitted an application, made a phone call, or simply believed there was another path worth exploring.
Passion Isn't Found, It is Pursued
People often talk about "finding your passion" as if it is something hidden that suddenly appears one day. I don't think that's how it works. I think passion grows as you move toward the things that genuinely interest you. It develops through curiosity, action, and the willingness to keep going even when you don't know exactly where the road will lead.
The important thing is to keep moving.
One Question Can Change Everything
Asking doesn't guarantee a "yes". but not asking guarantees you'll never know what might have happened. If there is something you've been thinking about, someone you've wanted to contact, or an opportunity you've been afraid to pursue, maybe this is your reminder to simply ask.
You might hear "no" or nothing, but you might hear "yes", and sometimes one simple "yes" is enough to remind you that your passion is still alive and that your next chapter is waiting for you to take the first step.
