The Most High and the Teenager: A Lesson in Relationships

Have you ever seen a grandparent look at their teenage grandchild and feel a little sadness? It's that moment when the teen is glued to their phone, chatting with friends, and doesn't seem to realize the treasure of wisdom sitting right next to them. The grandparent might think, “If only they’d ask me about life, I’ve got so much to share.” It's a common scene, and while it might make the grandparent a little sad, their love for the grandchild never fades.

Now, think about this: could this same feeling be how the Most High looks at us sometimes?

In our fast-paced, phone-distracted world, it's easy to get caught up in the buzz of daily life, the noise of social media, and the rush of modern distractions. We might forget to stop and ask for guidance, to seek the wisdom that's available to us through faith, prayer, and reflection. Like the grandparent, the Most High might look at us with a similar sadness, knowing that we have so much to gain but are too distracted to receive it.

But here's the good part – just like the grandparent, God still loves us, unconditionally. No matter how distracted we may become, His love never wavers. Just like the grandparent would still offer their wisdom whenever the grandchild is ready to listen, the Most High is always there, ready to guide us when we turn our attention toward Him.

So, how can we learn from this earthly experience and improve our relationship with the Most High while we’re still on Earth?

  1. Prioritize Quality Time: Just as grandparents long for those meaningful moments with their grandchildren, the Most High desires our time. Instead of always being caught up in the hustle, make space for prayer, meditation, or quiet reflection. That’s when the Most High’s wisdom flows most clearly.

  2. Recognize the Value of Guidance: We all know a teenager who might take their friends’ advice over their grandparent’s wisdom. Similarly, it’s easy for us to get swayed by the world’s advice instead of turning to God’s eternal guidance. Let’s value the wisdom that comes from above more than fleeting trends and opinions.

  3. Be Present: Just as a grandparent loves when their grandchild is present and engaged, God loves it when we seek Him wholeheartedly. Spend time listening, not just talking. He’s always there, waiting for us to listen to what He has to say.

  4. Embrace the Unconditional Love: Even if we get distracted, just like a grandparent’s love for their grandchild, God’s love never changes. He’s always ready to embrace us and offer His wisdom when we’re ready to receive it.

In the end, let’s take a lesson from the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. The Most High is always there, ready to offer His love, wisdom, and guidance. It’s up to us to put down the distractions, open our hearts, and seek the wisdom that is right in front of us.

Let’s remember, there’s always time to reconnect, no matter how distracted we’ve been. And just like the grandparent who waits patiently for their grandchild to come around, the Most High will always be there with open arms, ready to guide us when we’re ready to listen.
