Are You Working With Your Type of People? If Not, It's Time To Find Your Tribe.

A year after a former employer was acquired and a merger is complete, I have realized that these are just not “my people”. They do not do anything that I am proud of.

They do not “make” anything, only manipulate information. The subject matter bores me. My mind goes to a beach on an island or a hiking trail in the mountain within the first 30 seconds of every meeting.

I disagree with leaders in their approach in some aspects of business.

I am now behind the scenes, and client contact is what I always enjoyed, but the types of positions available are not what I was accustomed to in my former life.

I hate my work environment. Everybody works in the dark. It’s a dungeon and they seem to like it.

Sh*t rolls downhill, and it all collects in my department.

Sometimes all you have to do is find your tribe.

Find the people you want to work with.

If you know that “these are just not my people” then it is a step in the right direction. Knowing that helps you find your tribe…your people…people that will help you fulfill your life’s work and vice versa.

Find A Hobby...Do Your Hobby...De-Stress

I’ve been at my job, a kitchen for eight years. I recently had an episode a month back, it felt like a heart attack. It was one of the scariest things I have ever felt. It happened again and again over the next few weeks.

I went to a heart doctor, and he said, there is nothing wrong with your heart. It’s stress, you’re having panic attacks he said. I have not felt normal for some time.

Every now and again, when I have time off, or am actively participating in my hobbies, and passions, I feel like my old self again.

But most days I just feel bad. It’s a horrible feeling that I would never wish on anyone. I don’t ever want to feel this way ever again.

I have strongly disliked my job for many years and have suffered problems related to stress because of it, but never this bad.

It’s just too much and I can’t put myself thru it any more.

hobbies Churchill

Sometimes all it takes is for us to lose ourselves in our hobbies.

They are our passions.

They allow us to de- stress.

They allow us to un-think.

They can pull us out of a deep depression.

Those hobbies can help us find our way, our path, and our plan.

Today, do your hobby or if you don’t have a hobby then go to a hobby store and walk around it and decide to try something that interest you…then…you’ll have a hobby.

Being Bullied At Work? Stand Up For Yourself.

I am being bullied at work and my work is not what was promised to me.

It is demeaning and unfulfilling.

The organization has closed ranks around the bully. I have no allies.

~Worker Living in FLORIDA

Sometimes we have to stand up for ourselves.

As adults we don’t have to fight the bullies, just like we didn’t have to fight them when we were in high school.  We recognized who the bullies were and we created a plan to deal with them.stand up

Workplace bullies are no different than the high school bullies. Most people are afraid of them, so for a period of time they get away with their bullying. They taunt you until you stand up to them.

You have to stand up to them.

You can also stand up to the bully by working your “Just Quit” plan.

The sooner you can walk into that job and ANYDAY of your choosing you can leave is a GOOD day.

Even if you don’t leave you won’t be afraid of standing up to them because you’ll have “Just Quit” Power.

Prepare yourself so you can stand your ground.

Get Beyond the WHY and Move on to HOW to Connect to Your Purpose

This job is such a spiritual, emotional and integrity disconnect.

I fantasize about escape every day and can’t breathe.

I know there has to be more to life.

~Worker Living in FLORIDA

your purpose help others

In order for us to get connected back to ourselves, our hopes, our dreams, and our purpose we have to know if we are disconnected.

If we KNOW we are disconnected it doesn’t really matter why.  We all know the reason why…we needed a job…we need a salary…we haven’t been able to find another job…ect…ect…ect…, but NONE of that truly matters…we are still disconnected.

Get beyond WHY and just move on to HOW.

How are you going to get connected?

What type of job (maybe it’s not a job; maybe THAT is the problem, you think you need to find ANOTHER job); profession; cause; or endeavor will connect you to your authentic self.

There is only ONE you. Connect back to your hopes, your dreams (even those that seem dashed), and most importantly, connect back to your purpose.

Don’t Let Anyone Cut The Wings of Your Dreams

Ah actually, I did quit. I’m taking this survey out of curiosity.

After almost fifteen years in manufacturing I’ve only managed to work my way up to $15/hr. I am intelligent, well-spoken and extremely well written. I am analytical, capable of complex abstract thought, have keen spatial visualization and problem solving skills. I could only take so much of being reminded of these things by co-workers and engineers without due compensation.

The final straw came when I was passed up for a gainful opportunity within another department which I was an ideal candidate for, because of my apparent value to my current department. That was it. It was already bad enough that I didn’t love my job, being overlooked in lieu of a lesser qualified candidate because my manager would not let me go was a direct insult to my integrity as a human being.

Live up to your capabilities.

Don’t let anyone cut the wings of your dreams.

Professional or Personal Development - Learn Something New Today

I recently accepted a position as a media buyer/planner.  I was told I would receive training because I had zero experience on the buying/planning side of advertising.

Two months in, and other than picking up stuff here and there, NO training. NO teaching me the fundamentals of media buying and planning.

Communication is poor and I have no idea what’s expected of me. My work load is insane: in two months, I have managed a 7-market buy and placed media for an event in Seattle; I am currently planning an $800,000 media buy, am working on a small flyer drop, a small digital campaign, and I was just assigned two other mid-sized buys today.

Did I mention I have zero experience in media buying/planning?

Take a Chance...Drop Every Fear and Doubt...Stop Holding Yourself Back

You are reading from the book “Just Quit” & Live

Q: Why do you want to quit your job EVEN if you don’t have another job lined-up?

Overcoming Fear – July 2

I am working in a career field that is not related to my degrees I have obtained. It was my first job out of college promising growth opportunities.

The field I want to work in has no growth so they have not had available positions in the 5-6 years I’ve been here.

I have gone back to school while working and need to take the leap to the career that makes me happy now that I’m done with my formal education. There is no job satisfaction where I work and even my supervisor doesn’t like the job. The plus is great benefits and a steady pay check.

Fear has been holding me back.

I tried quitting in January of 2013 and HR talked me out of it because I didn’t have another job lined up.

It has been difficult to find a job in the field I want to be in while working because I have not had the time to build my creative portfolio and I am drained of energy after work and the 1 hour to 1.5 hour commute home.

~Worker Living in FLORIDA

Drop every fear and doubt

Fear will hold us back.

Fear is a real dream snatcher as is doubt.

The thing is….everyone knows what fear feels like…everyone knows what doubt feels like…they are both just feelings…don’t let them hold you back from pursing your dreams…just don’t pay that much attention to fear or doubt… get prepared and go for it.

Listening to Our Bodies

You are reading from the book  “Just Quit” & Live

Today’s Workplace Story/Situation:

I am under so much stress. I feel like I’m going to have a heart attack. The panic attacks I’m having are getting worse. ~Worker in FLORIDA

listen to your body

Today’s Meditation/Reflection:

Our bodies will let us know when enough is enough.

You might be able to fool your own mind.

You might be able to fool your family.

You cannot however fool your body. Your body has a voice and if it starts to scream you have to listen.

Today listen to your body…you only have one body…you only get one body…that’s it…so listen up.
