From a Teacher in Singapore...

Why I want to “just quit” even if I don’t have another job lined-up…

I don’t look forward to going to work at all. Sometimes I come home from work crying or I feel so terrible during the lessons that I cry in front of my students, shout or get impatient at them for little things that are not their fault, or just sit there and don’t care about teaching them at all.

Just Quit Isn't Over Yet

I keep hoping that one day I can “let go” of Just Quit and Live and stop blogging about folks who want to “Just Quit”, but alast another year.

Another year I’ve paid the ever growing cost of maintaining a web page, another year and folks are still finding the blog (even though I don’t have much time to really blog much anymore), another year and folks are still “miserable while working” and completing the survey. We’re almost at the 9,000 entry mark. There is so much data now I need to find a data analyst to make sense of what is going on in the work world.

Here’s the latest survey entry from a female 25 and under Camera Operator in the United Kingdom:

” Overworked, underpaid, unappreciated. Management are not management. They are slave drivers. They want you in an early grave so they can have an early retirement.”

So, it ain’t over yet. I must keep going. There are still people (and young people at that) who are hurting.

If you found this blog just know that you are not alone and you are not crazy if you are at a point of wanting to quit your job even if you don’t have another one. You can do it if you want to, but you need a plan. Don’t just jump without knowing the cost.

Look around the blog and I’ll do better in 2019 to keep posting…since I see that I just paid the webpage fee for another year. Stay tuned and…

Peace,

Ridea

2019 Starting Anew

It’s almost 2019 and there are workers worldwide suffering in jobs that they want to “Just Quit” even if they don’t have another job lined up. Why is that? Why is this still an issue? Why are people still suffering?

I read the survey results daily and understand the pain behind the entries. I know how hard it is to first believe you can take your career into your own hands. It’s even harder to grasp that if you choose to you can “Just Quit” and start again.

It’s almost 2019…do you need to “Just Quit” and start again? Don’t be afraid. Plan and Act. No Fear. Live Your Life.

Make 2019 THE year that you CREATE the life you want to live. ~Ridea 2018

Worldwide Workers Want to "Just Quit" Their Jobs

Why is it that worldwide workers who HAVE jobs want to “Just Quit” even if they don’t have another job lined up?  Why is it?  What is going on?

This is the world:

We have 127 countries represented in our survey. Below is a recent survey entry:

Why Are You Thinking About Quitting Your Job Without Another One?
I am mentally and physically drained.
I don’t believe in my profession anymore.
I don’t think my profession treats anyone well and it operates under old and unethical paradigms.
I don’t like dealing with large groups of kids anymore. In fact, I hate it. It sucks the life from me.

Are you prepared to quit? Check those things that you have already done.
Completed a spreadsheet to find out how long you can go without a job
Saved or have access to enough money for 6 months for basic expenses
Have a general idea or specific plan about what you really want to do (Without doing this you’ll probably get stuck again doing something that makes you miserable.)
✓ Thought about how this decision will impact your family/spouse/children
✓ Thought about “The Story” you’ll tell about “Just Quitting” (while between employment)
✓ Talked to others who have “Just Quit”- Listened to their stories/what they did (Note: You will not find many people who’ve had the courage to do this. Most people stay stuck or wait until they find another job.)
✓ DECIDED to “Just Quit” – You may not know the date, but you have made the decision.
Determined the actual date you can “Just Quit” (This is your “Just Quit” date.)
✓ Thought about your plan for leaving on good terms; such as; writing your resignation letter if you are an employee (You MUST do this and give proper notice. NO EXCEPTIONS.)
✓ Visualized how you will celebrate after you “Just Quit” – What will you do the moment it is over? What about that night? & The next morning? & The morning after that?
I am…
✓ Female
How old are you?
✓ 36-45
My Current Income Is…
✓ Under $50,000
What do you do? Job Title/Industry/Field
Teacher

I live…

General Comments: About this blog; about your situation; about what you feel could really HELP you at this time in your life…

Education does not respect teachers. It used to be my dream to teach. If I could start over and I were just graduating from college today, right now, there is no way in hell I would take a teaching job.

NOW ASK YOURSELF –

WHY DID I READ THIS ENTIRE POST?

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO NEXT?

WHAT CAN I CREATE TO NOT HAVE TO WORK AT MY CURRENT “JOB”? WHAT CAN I CREATE???

Just Quitting Your Job

Just quitting your full-time job without another one lined up is NOT for the faint of heart.  It is not.

For those of you struggling in your current job and you KNOW you need to quit for your health, for your sanity, or for your family:  YOU ARE NOT ALONE and YOU ARE NOT CRAZY.

If you found this blog, you were MEANT to find this blog. Take a look around at some of the other stories of people from other parts of the world who are in the same boat that you are in.  They all want to JUST QUIT.

Know this…if you work the plan you CAN just quit your job.  It is not impossible.  I have done it and so can you.

I have created a “coach in a box” resource for you.  It has daily stories and meditations to help you get through the day while you work your JUST QUIT plan.

Below is the link to the book, and I’m working on a plan to offer additional tools and resources to help those suffering while employed.

Wishing You Peace,

Ridea

Re-Reading Just Quit & Live - September 9th

Out of necessity and to prepare for the author’s showcase at Newport News Public Library I have been re-reading the book.   I am grateful for understanding this feeling again. It helps me relate to my readers and those who find this blog.

As I re-read the book I realize that this is a book about holding on the hope that everything must change. Not knowing WHEN it will change, but that it surely will change and that you can plan and prepare for something better for your life.

Below is September 9th’s Entry

HAVING A STRATEGY

I’m not inspired by what I’m doing.

I’m working very hard and achieving nothing.

I don’t agree with the strategy or lack of strategy of the work and how it has been put together.  The company has no strong work ethic ethos, and lots of people doing the bare minimum.

There is no transparency in pay and often projects are under resourced meaning that we fail to deliver quality work on time.

~Worker Living in the UNITED KINGDOM

strategy

How many of the places where we work have well-thought out AND COMMUNICATED strategies?   Not Many. We all know this, and we also know when there really isn’t a cogent strategy AT ALL…communicated or not.

We know when everybody is just showing up, but not working towards the same thing.  Sometimes all we can do is know this, and maybe do the bare minimum (if you can) while you reserve your mental energy to pursue your own interests, develop your own personal life strategy and work it…sometimes that is all we can do.

P.S. – That I wrote in 2014

If you find yourself in this situation today; continue to work hard EVEN if there is no strong work ethics in the organization. Just stay focused and develop a clear strategy for your job.  There is something powerful about doing the right thing even when you don’t see the point.

Just pretend like you are the owner/president/executive director/in the corner office.  This is your organization. Now ask yourself what would YOU (as the owner) want YOU (current job holder) to do? Just pretend…who knows…maybe one day YOU may be the owner…have employees…need a clear and communicated vision..need a strategy to reach the vision…and…change your corner of the world…or the world.

I always go back to Microsoft’s vision that they basically achieved inside of  20 years…it happpened…A desktop computer in every home running Microsoft Office.

NOW what is the vision for YOUR life in the next 20 years?

What is it????

There is NO NEED for a strategy if you don’t have a vision.

WHAT IS YOUR VISION?

It is not a mistake that you are in this situation…maybe it is to wake you up…have a vision and strategy and stop just going through the motions.

P.S. that I am writing in 2018 – Focus on your own business, even if that business is just living your life. Envision peace for yourself and your family.

New Book Cover For Just Quit & Live

Although I haven’t been able to blog the survey results in some time to-date we have over 9,835 entries from 127 countries.  There are 195 countries in the world so our survey respondents live in 65% of the WORLD.  Because survey results are still coming in daily I know that many people are currently painfully employed.  Below is a recent survey entry from a woman from Massachusetts making over $100K:

I am no longer fulfilled with any aspect of my current positions. I drag myself out of bed every morning. I dread going in and spending all day at a desk and computer. I get anxious when the weekend is almost over. And I am more frustrated at work then at any other place.

I am redoubling my efforts on this issue.

I have a new book cover that depicts the possibilities and the hope on the other side of just quitting your job.

If you find this post and you are suffering in your job, just know that you are not crazy and you are not alone.  There are many others who have googled “just quit” and found this blog and purchased the book.  Inside the book are stories from others who want to/need to “just quit” and daily motivations that will give YOU hope and help you make it through until YOU too can “just quit”.
