Learn To Balance A Dream And A Job Until Your Dream Becomes Your Job

I lose a lot of time on work and cannot pursue my interests which in turn cannot be created into a career that I want to create it into.

So, it is a vicious cycle of making ends meet so that we have some money to pursue what we really like, but lose time for pursuing the things we truly like. And we get back in the cycle of earning more money and trading time.

balancing

Yes, there is a cycle of doing what we are doing to make money verses having the time to do what interests us.

We have to find balance between the two.

We have to look around at our life, make sure we are in balance and pursuing our interests.

P.S.

Below is a pretty interesting post about finding balance and doing something now towards your interest/dreams even while you are stuck in your day job.

Say "Yes" To Yourself. Yes. Yes. Yes.

I have my own business that cannot thrive or grow without me devoting more time to it. It has gotten to the point where the things that need to be done for my business require more time and more effort. I am so drained from my job during the day, that I lack the energy to want to do anything else. In truth the time is there I am just worn out.

I also no longer enjoy what I do because I am being overwhelmed by too many unrelated job tasks. I feel that now that it is just me and one other person there are 9-5 responsibilities that shouldn’t necessarily be mine, but have become my duty.

I don’t feel that I am good at graphic design and having the pressure of doing something that I don’t think that I am good at is stressful. This isn’t what I signed up for and I have the skill but it’s not an area where I excel, so I feel like the pressure of my work not being good enough.

My job title is Project Manager but I have no team to manage or assist with anything, everything is on me.

Say Yes To Yourself

Our first duty is to ourselves.

Today, we will focus on what WE want.

Emotional Intelligence Gives You The Power To Move Forward

I have nothing but contempt and feel as if my life is being wasted.

colors of life

On Plutchik’s color wheel of emotions, the emotion of contempt is between rage, anger, loathing and disgust.

If I have contempt for my job today I will ask myself:  “Why am I living in this swirl of negative emotions?

How can I balance it with joy, trust, and anticipation?”  It’s not a trick question.  We need to balance negative emotions with positive ones.

How can we do that today?

What Are Your Dependable Skills? Those Innate Talents and Skills That Are With You No Matter What You Do or Where You Work.

I have been in finance for 17 years and it has gone completely stale for me.

I can’t stand sitting in front of a computer playing with Excel spreadsheets all day anymore.

Every morning I’m sick to my stomach when I wake up and find it almost painful to do my tasks at work.

I realize now that the business world is not for me.

Dependable Skills

Sometimes it’s the work itself and we have finally realized it.  We just can’t or don’t want to do the tasks anymore.  They have grown old on us.  We need to take them off like clothes that are too small.  This is good to know. We just need something new.  Once we get to this point we will eventually start to get VERY excited, because NOW we can choose our next venture.

We can start preparing for the next thing.

As we progress on this road of finding our life’s work we can get really hung-up in looking for the next “job”.

We want to be doing something we think would be interesting, but it’s not quite what we’ve done in the past.

Then what happens? We don’t get any call backs for an interview.  We don’t get any calls at all.

Then what happens? We think we need to go back to school or to get a certification or something to learn about a new field.

Then what happens? We are still stuck in our jobs we have outgrown, we have the credentials for a new field, but we STILL don’t get any calls for interviews.

BEFORE you do anything (and especially if you are thinking of spending any money on it) just stop and make SURE you are clear on your “dependable skills”.  Those innate talents and skills that are with you no matter what you do or where you work.  It is those skills that point to your life’s work. You need to blend those skills with tasks that you want to do.

Just don’t jump back into another “job” with different tasks too quickly… use this time to really search your soul for your life’s work.

It's A Brand New Day & Everything Will Be Fine

You are reading from the book “Just Quit” & Live

Q: Why do you want to quit your job EVEN if you don’t have another job lined-up?

The volume of work is too high for one person therefore I do not have time to cross-train or learn other responsibilities.

I’m not learning anything new and I’m sick and tired of doing the same crappy load of work day after day.

I just can’t do it anymore.

new day

It’s a new day.

It’s a brand new day.

Yesterday was yesterday and it is gone.

Today, just for today believe that things will change.  You will make a change in your life.

Don’t worry about your job, or the work, or the work load – TODAY do something to move towards THAT change.

Everything will be fine.

What Do You Want?

You are reading from the book  Just Quit” & Live

Q: Why do you want to quit your job EVEN if you don’t have another job lined-up?

I need time off, to redefine myself, to focus on education in the field, to volunteer, and make room for a new opportunity that is more aligned to my interests. I am hoping to find a similar role in a much smaller, slower paced environment, so there is a better work life balance.  I am suffering from anxiety and taking medication to make it through the week now.  I want to get back to healthy.

Meditation/Reflection:

If we know what we want, it is already there waiting for us.

We have to know what we want or we will miss it if it shows up.

What do you want?

Set your next career goal.  Just clearly set what role you want to play and on what field. No matter what, eventually you are going to have to set sail for that new destination…it’s just a matter of time.
